Week 3: Building Faith

Today’s Easy Task:  Fast from technology for 24 hrs & practice obedience

How to rock this task:

  • Take a 24-hour break from technology (television, video games, tablet devices, computers, phones, and smart watches) one day a week (recommend on Sabbath day) and use that time to connect with God.
  • When God speaks to you, stop whatever you are doing to enthusiastically sing the song "Yes Lord, Yes" by Shirley Caesar, and then hustle as quickly as possible to do what God says.

Today's Devotional:

You have made it to Day 19 & 20!

Unplugging

The day before Yesterday, you meditated on 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and Matthew 7:24-27. Today, select a day to unplug – fast from technology for 24 hours so you can spend time to rest with God.

In life, there are so many distractions; sometimes, it is necessary to unplug from the distractions so you can better connect to God. The benefits of connecting with God are:
• God responds to you because you are living by His Word
• You please God because you know His likes and dislikes
• God gives you the grace to obey
• Your Heart Longs for God
• You have Favor because of your belief, heart, and obedient spirit Hopefully you are saved through Jesus Christ, if not pray the following prayer:
“Lord I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. I choose to turn away from my sins and ask You to cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Thank You for being my redeemer and healer. I want You to now be the Lord of my life and for You to lead me. I want to spend time with You in Your word so You can know me and I can know you. Thank you for loving me, saving me, delivering me, healing me so I can be a part of Your Kingdom and bring all glory and honor to Your Holy name. My soul blesses You Lord, because You have forgiven all my iniquities and healed all my diseases. You have redeemed my life from destruction and crowned me with loving kindness and tender mercies. You have satisfied my mouth with good things. So now my youth is renewed like the eagles. Thank you, Lord, for executing righteousness and justices for me when I am oppressed. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen”

It's important to keep your life and thoughts pure (Philippians 4:8). There are two main ways you can govern your thoughts!
1. You can screen your thoughts (protect your mind) since evil thoughts bring corruption (1 Corinthians 15:33). Below are some great questions that you can use to help filter your thoughts.
a. What is the source of these thoughts?
b. Where will these thoughts lead me?
c. Are these thoughts scriptural?
d. Will these thoughts build me up or tear me down?
e. Can I share these thoughts?
f. Do these thoughts make me feel guilty?
2. You can choose your thoughts by dwelling on actions that align with God’s word and practice them. You can accept Godly thinking and reject Ungodly thinking.
Take some time and set aside a full day to rest with God. When you dwell with God, you will find rest (Psalm 91:1).

Practicing Obedience

Have you heard the song, "Yes Lord, Yes" by Shirley Caesar? It is a song that illustrates complete surrender to God's will. The action of submission doesn't happen naturally. So practicing the process of obedience with an actual hands-on activity is the best way to learn obedience. The "Yes Lord, Yes" game helps you to practice obedience because whenever you feel God is speaking to you, stop what you are doing to sing the song "Yes Lord, Yes," and then do what God said enthusiastically.
The "Yes, Lord, Yes" game is ideal because it is wise to obey God. For a foolish person hears God's Word and doesn't do it. Don’t be a fool. Do more than listen, but do what God Words says (James 1:22). God wants you to read, hear, and obey His Word (Romans 8:14). That is wisdom and it builds for you a firm foundation of blessings (Matthew 7:24). The action of studying and applying God's Word lead you to abundant life (Luke 11:28). It is very important to obey God’s Word in word and deed.
When taking steps to do God’s Word, pray for God to prepare your heart. So you can hear, read, and study what He wants. Ask the Lord what He wants to teach you, and how can I apply it to my life?
Before opening your Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the message He wants me to receive in scriptures. You should jot down your first impression in your 90-day journal; jot down anything confusing; jot down your questions; jot down the verses that speak life to your situations. For the Holy Spirit is the great revealer of truth and the best resource for guidance whenever you choose to yield to Him!

Today’s Prayer:

God, Jehovah El Shaddai. You are almighty. You are all-powerful. I can run to You and dwell with You to receive rest. Let Your rest fill this earth. Help me to fellowship and spend time with You. You are my source of strength. Your presence gives me life in dead situations. Help me unplug from anything that is distracting me from spending time with You. Forgive me for spending more time with television, video games, tablet devices, computers, phones, and smartwatches than with You on the Sabbath day – your day of rest. Help me to be depended on You and not technology. So I can be a better family member, friend, and worker. When evil surrounds me and tempts me, keep me safe and on the right path. Keep a hedge of protection around me. Thank You for Your Guidance and directions.

God, You are my Abba Father. You want me to trust You with all my heart. I am Your child because I am born again. You have adopted me into the family of God, which makes me an heir of God! You are genuinely loving and awesome. I need more and more of You here on earth. Let your glory fill the earth. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Abba Father, thank You for providing my daily bread and giving me the wisdom, understanding and knowledge to obey you immediately with enthusiasm whenever You give me instructions. Forgive me for my disobedience and disgruntle attitudes when You speak to me. Help me to stay on Your path and protect me from evil. Please help me to resist temptation. I love You and adore You forever. In Jesus Name, Amen.
