Week 9: Resting
Today’s Easy Task: Participate in a pleasurable activity to alleviate pain and deepen our relationship with God
How to rock this task:
- Try doing a pleasurable activity as much as you possible throughout the day
Today's Devotional:
If you are in pain, once you participate in pleasurable activities it surprisingly alleviates the pain.
Kechi Okwuchi a burnt survivor of a plane crash and finalist on American’s Got Talent was explaining in a Testimony that after her 5 weeks in coma. She had undergone over 100 surgeries which caused her tremendous pain. There was a point that the doctors couldn’t do anything more to help her with the pain and itching and she was without sleep for 3 nights. She was depressed and felt helpless. Her grandma told her to talk to God like He was an actual person, not an abstract being. Talk to Him like you would your own father. Kechi begin to pour her soul to God and talk to Him about everything that was concerning her and slept through the entire night. It was at that moment when her relationship with God deepened and she realized that God was able to help her with things that medicine couldn’t achieve.
Also, in the midst of all those surgeries, music was her pleasure. She could not do much, but she could sing and listen to music. So she did that constantly and it was used as a therapy for her. It helped with recover through the pain. To see her powerful testimony click on the YouTube link listed below:

Today I would like for us to participate in a pleasurable activity to alleviate our pain and deepen our relationship with God. We can be like Kechi. We can pray, listen to music, and sing. Whatever we do, if we are enjoying, it will help us feel better especially when the Holy Spirit is invited to participate in that activity. It is comforting to know that God hears our prayer and refreshes our spirit (2 Corinthians 7:13). When the presence of God is upon us, God can heal us, comfort us and bring us joy (Psalm30:11; Isaiah 61:1-3; Jeremiah 31:13)
Today’s Prayer:
God, You reign forever and ever in the heavens and on earth. We are so thankful for You. You deserve all the glory, honor and praise. Let Your kingdom come and will be done in our lives. Help us to participate in pleasurable activities. We don’t want pain, depression and hopelessness. Thank you for being there for Kechi and showing me how prayer, music and singing can help us recover through pain. We want to have a deeper relationship with you. Help us to participate in pleasurable activities that alleviate our pain, but also deepen our relationship with You. Help us to invite the Holy Spirit as we are participating in that activity, because we know that the Holy Spirit refreshes us, heals us, comforts us and brings us joy. We ask You to please forgive us for all our debts, trespasses, and sins as we forgive our debtors and those who have trespassed and sinned against us. Lead us not into temptation. Everyday help us to be equipped with the full armor of God as You deliver us from evil. For Yours is the Kingdom, Power and Glory. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
