Week 7: Saving and Investing
Today’s Easy Task: Pick a date to start the save before spending challenge
How to rock this task:
- Only shop for essentials
- If you do spend, you must save the entire amount first
Today's Devotional:
Being a lender to advance God’s Kingdom should be a goal for all Christian. Whatever we give should come from our overflow. That way we don’t miss it, it won’t destroy us and our relationships if we don’t get it back. So if we give from our overflow, it is easier to follow the instructions of Luke 6:38. This verse suggests that we should give to those who ask, and whoever takes away, don’t demand it back.
To be a lender, it is important that we take steps to avoid borrowing (Deuteronomy 15:6), keep track of what we owe, make sure our debt is fully paid, and don’t give more that what we can lend.
Since the borrower is slave to the lender, we can provide the borrower payment options of our choice, but lending is a risk because we may or may not receive a return. There are a lot of things outside of our control, such as the future, but God still want for us to take steps of faith.
If we are wise with our money, we can use it to finance God’s Kingdom. For if we don’t build God’s Kingdom, who will build it? Romans 10:15 emphasizes that finances must be covered for ministries to exist. So when we lend and give to Kingdom of God we are setting up treasures in Heaven (Matthew 6:20). Let’s commit our resources to God’s Kingdom and do our work for God and not people (Colossians 3:23-24). Let us use our gift of teaching, singing, music for God’s glory and not our own. We can’t afford to lose our treasure to false teachers that appear to be light, but is really darkness (2 John 1:8).
Today’s Prayer:
: God, You are wise and all-knowing. You are a loving father. Hollowed be thy name. God please provide for us to have the means to finance Your Kingdom. Help us to get debt free and avoid borrowing so our debts are fully paid. Bless all of our lending efforts. I pray that we are wise with our money and that we use our gifts for Your glory. Forgive our debt as we forgive as debtors. Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil. In Jesus Name, Amen.
